Join us in an annual tradition of celebrating the Buddha’s birth, death, and enlightenment. Vesak is celebrated in all Buddhist traditions. Please bring a vegetarian dish to share for the potluck. The evening will include meditation, chanting, and a dharma talk.
We will also offer a formal refuge and precept ceremony. This is something that should not be done lightly, but with careful consideration. If you would like more information about taking refuges and precepts, there is a series of talks by Gil Fronsdal. You can also review an excerpt from Bhikkhu Bodhi’s “Going for Refuge and Taking the Precepts”. Please let us know no later than April 30 if you would like to formally participate in the ceremony (use the registration below). You can also just observe and support those who choose to do this formal ceremony.
Location: At the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Stanislaus County in the Sarana Kuti (building at the rear of the east parking lot), 2172 Kiernan Ave., Modesto, CA
